Beaulieu Road Pony Sales

The New Forest Livestock Society (NFLS), in conjunction with Southern Counties Auctioneers (SCA), were pleased to see the return of the first sale of the year at the Beaulieu Road sale yard for 2025.  There were some 80 entries forward across all the sections (Section 1 registered New Forest; Section 3 part bred New Forest ponies and Section 4 other horses / ponies / donkeys).

Rodlease Guardsman, a chestnut four-year-old gelding, owned by Mr Jonathan Gerrelli was the highest priced registered New Forest pony in Section 1 selling for £1750.  Other top prices of registered New Forest ponies included Ms Amy Howell’s bay three-year-old gelding, Ramnor Oberon fetching £1700 and Mrs Sandy Shore’s dark bay three-year-old gelding reaching £940.

Prior to the start of the sale, the NFLS held a pre-sale youngstock show for registered New Forest ponies.  All animals entered are required to be halter broken, be able to lead out and be presented to Mr Simon Young, Farriers Stud, an independent judge.  Simon comes from a long standing New Forest commoning family, with a history of breeding many successful New Forest ponies.

Class 1 (registered New Forest yearlings – fillies, colts, and geldings)

Class 2a (registered New Forest two- and three-year-olds – fillies, colts and geldings)

 

1st Longslade Tomcat, Ms G Gillian

2nd Wickwood Merlin, Mrs S Shore

3rd Ramnor Oberon, Ms A Howells (highest placed young commoner)

4th Shallowmead Royale, Master W Gerrelli

 

Class 2b (registered New Forest four-year-old – fillies, colts and geldings)

 

1st Rodlease Guardsman, Mr J Gerrelli

2nd Cavannas Oh No Overdraft, Ms A and Ms J Cavanna (highest placed young commoner)

 

Overall Champion – Rodlease Guardsman, Mr J Gerrelli

Reserve Overall Champion and Forest Bred Champion – Wickwood Merlin, Mrs S Shore

 

Future sale dates for 2025 include Thursday 9th October and Thursday 6th November both at the Beaulieu Road sale yard.  There will be a timed online sale Friday 28th November to Wednesday 3rd December 2025.
